🎯 About the Role


The Superintendent – Production Geology position plays a critical leadership role within our Mine Technical Services Division. You will oversee daily geological activities, ensure accurate ore control, guide a team of production geologists, and work closely with mine operations to optimize ore delivery and reduce dilution. Your work will directly support operational decision-making, strategic planning, and production forecasting.


This leadership role requires a strong operational geology background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build alignment between geology, mine planning, and operations. You will champion geological standards, implement best-practice models, and ensure safe and efficient geological fieldwork and sampling procedures.

🎯 Key Responsibilities


As the Superintendent – Production Geology, you will:


Operational Leadership


Lead and supervise the Production Geology team, ensuring all geological activities meet NPL’s safety, technical, and operational standards.


Coordinate daily ore control, grade control drilling, sampling, mapping, and geological validation activities.


Work closely with Mine Planning, Survey, and Operations teams to align geological interpretations with short-term production schedules.



Geological Mapping & Ore Control


Oversee detailed pit mapping, underground face mapping (if applicable), and geological data collection.


Ensure accurate ore boundary interpretation and dilution management.


Implement best-practice ore control methods to maximize recovery and minimize losses.



Geological Modeling & Data Integrity


Supervise the creation and updating of geological and grade control models using industry-standard software.


Maintain high-quality geological databases with strong QA/QC procedures.


Ensure timely interpretation of geological data for operational decision-making.



Technical Reporting & Compliance


Review and approve daily, weekly, and monthly geological production reports.


Support compliance with internal controls, external audits, and reporting standards.


Assist in reconciliation between mine production and resource models.



Team Development & Mentoring


Train, mentor, and guide geologists and field technicians to improve technical skills and operational performance.


Build a collaborative and high-performing geological team driven by safety and excellence.

🎯 Qualifications & Experience


To be considered for this role, candidates should ideally possess:


A Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or Earth Sciences (a postgraduate degree is advantageous).


Significant experience in production geology within a large-scale open-pit or underground mining environment.


Expertise in ore control, mine-to-mill workflows, geological mapping, and grade control processes.


Advanced proficiency in geological modeling and mining software (e.g., Leapfrog Geo, Datamine, Vulcan, Surpac).


Strong leadership capability with experience managing multidisciplinary teams.


Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.


Demonstrated commitment to safety, geological excellence, and operational efficiency.
